Fraze help

Translate a video, class, or lecture on your computer

To translate a YouTube video, an online class, or a recorded lecture, Fraze needs to hear your computer's sound, not your microphone.

Which computer are you using?

1. Set the languages

Pick the language the speaker uses and the language you want to read. For example, Portuguese and Spanish.

  1. Click the language pill in the top left corner.

  2. Under Spoken language, pick the language people speak. Under Translate to, pick the language you want to read, or No translation for captions only. You can type to search.

2. Turn on System audio and turn off Microphone

  1. Click the word on the left of the dark pill (System, Mic, or Mix) to open the Audio source menu.

  2. Check System audio and uncheck Microphone. With the microphone off, your own voice and room noise stay out of the text. The pill now says System.

  3. The first time, macOS asks whether Fraze can record system audio. Allow it. Fraze hears all sound playing on your Mac, so there is no window to pick.

  5. Play the audio. The words appear a moment after each pause, with the translation under them.

Attending the class in person?

Then do the opposite: turn on Microphone, turn off System audio, and keep your computer as close to the speaker as you can.
